TEACHING & COACHING RESUME

Why a good resume is better than filling out a form or application: The advantage of filling in online forms or completing applications is to create a database which is conveniently searchable and/or comparable to other applicants. But it is a poor and limiting way to gather half-duplex information, and a pitiful method to select a leader - which is ultimately what a teacher, coach, or manager is. To "see" such characteristics outside a personal interview one needs to read a well written resume, and mine won't fit in a box. So please carefully review this resume.

INTRODUCTION:
My name is Joe Hutchison. I am 49 years old, married, and father to one daughter. I have been married for more than twenty-four years to the same wonderful woman and have one teenage daughter. I graduated from a church-affiliated high school in Memphis, TN. -Frayser Baptist Schools- so I know the value of education. My college education focused on the art of instruction, leadership, counseling, and teaching and has helped prepare me for the rigors of employee management and any administrative duties by offering detailed, formal instruction in the concepts of working within a team, psychology, strategies, tactics, negotiations, contracts, promotions, and marketing. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Memphis May 1998 with a self-authored baccalaureate degree in Coaching and Athletic Leadership. I am currently enrolled at the university seeking a Masters Degree in Sport and Leisure Commerce through the Department of Human Movement Sciences & Education (HMSE) having completed all the necessary coursework at the Master's level and lacking only a senior thesis/special project (30 of 39 hours). This is a degree in Business Administration with a slant toward sport related commerce. These are not, nor were they intended to be traditional degrees. They are degrees designed outside the box of traditional thinking and heavily scrutinized and critiqued by the University of Memphis and received special acknowledgment from same. I possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills, and have considerable knowledge and extended course work in History, Geography, Math, English, Marketing, Health, Physical Education, and Team Sports. This letter serves notice I am interested in any current vacancy with your company or organization. It is to this end I hereby submit this resume.

EDUCATION:

Honors, related activities, accomplishments: Continuous Dean's List; 3.63 GPA; Authored own degree; Graduated magna cum laude; Authored multiple football web sites, one of which was my senior project; Served Internship with football team as assistant line coach.
Current Status: Enrolled in Masters Program Sport and Leisure Commerce at the University of Memphis (30 of 39 credits completed).

REQUIREMENTS:
I DO NOT possess a current teaching certificate. I hold a self-authored B.P.S. in Coaching and Athletic Leadership. This is a degree in the art of instruction, leadership, counseling, or teaching, depending on the reviewers subjectivity. This degree's senior thesis won the 1999 Distinguished Special Project Award at the University College at the University of Memphis. I have also completed all the necessary coursework at the Master's level for a self-authored M.S. in Sport and Leisure Commerce, lacking only a senior thesis/special project (30 of 39 hours). This is a degree in Business Administration with a slant toward sport related commerce. The first degree was written specifically for me and partially by me through the College of Education at the University of Memphis and intended to qualify myself to teach, counsel, instruct, advise, and lead student athletes be it on the field or in the classroom. It is not a degree in a single subject matter; rather it is a degree in the art of teaching/instruction itself.
The second degree was designed to qualify myself to perform administrative (Business) duties pertaining to the sport and leisure genres. Course work in this degree has a heavy influx of business management, marketing, analytical and problem-solving instruction - including promotions, negotiations, contracts, and event management. These are not, nor were they intended to be traditional degrees. They are degrees designed outside the box of traditional thinking intended to mold a teacher of subjects as apposed to a subject teacher, and heavily scrutinized and critiqued by the University of Memphis and received special acknowledgment from same.
I want to teach because I want to open closed minds, then fill them. It doesn't matter if these minds are from "special needs," lower income, or affluent environments. The ability to competently screen the ceaseless stream of information available in todays media-driven world, and come to rational appraisals, and actually alter ones beliefs and or behaviors is the greatest testament to self growth - and is completely detached from socio-economic status. The ability to educate oneself (actually learn) comes from the ability to analyze and recognize valid information and properly apply it in solving some problem or filling some need. I want to teach others how to think - for themselves. I don't want to support or shun the "ignorant masses" - I want to eliminate them. I'll use the tools I've gathered, strong organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills, and considerable knowledge and extended course work in History, Geography, Math, English, Marketing, Health, Physical Education, and Team Sports. I am certain I can easily qualify (test) into any of the subject areas mentioned above. In 2009 I took the Math Praxis Test and scored a 187.

EXPERIENCE:
I have a great desire to teach and a passion to coach football and possibly other sports. The winner of two wrestling championships while tutoring under former U.S. Champion Billy Wicks, I also served a season long Internship with the Trezevant Bears (Memphis, TN.) Football Team under Head Coach Lynn Lang (1997 Season) as an assistant football coach. I also have more than fifteen years managerial experience in several diverse industries. The author of numerous websites, including the award-winning football site mentioned above, I have also owned and operated two successful businesses - a computer assembly and sales, then home improvement company. Although the genre has varied over time in my work history, one theme has remained constant - I was always in, or rose to, positions of authority or management. Experiences in such a dynamic workplace often afforded me the opportunity to work in multicultural and diverse environments. I am a motivated, educated, dynamic, and driven problem solver. Being a successful manager, be it of inventory or personnel, does not mean knowing what page to turn to in the magical managers handbook to solve a problem. It means knowing how to analyze the problem, come to a plan of action, implement same to fruition, then provide some course to deter its recurrence. I am a manager in the truest, purest sense. I can manage a classroom, a group, a team, a business, myself, and my ability to successfully adapt to any environment. As a bonus I am far past computer literate (my website).
