Best 10 NFL Defenses of all time:
2000 Baltimore Ravens (10.3 ppg) 2001 Super Bowl Champions.  The Ravens can make plenty of arguments, beyond points allowed, as to why their defense should be considered the best. They are the first team since 1978 to allow fewer than 1,000 yards rushing, and the 970 yards were the lowest total in the NFL since the 1951 Giants. Opponents gained just 2.7 yards per rush. An opposing running back didn't gained 100 yards against Baltimore in 50 games; the NFL's second-best streak is 11. The Ravens held opponents scoreless in 41 of 64 quarters. Opposing quarterbacks had a composite 62.5 quarterback rating (think Ryan Leaf 16 times), and the Ravens allowed just 11 touchdown passes. More importantly they did the impossible.  They won the Super Bowl with no offense scoring repeatedly with their defense.
1985 & 86 Chicago Bears - Monsters of Midway (11.3 ppg) 1986 Super Bowl Champions.  The Bears defense did things in the 1985 playoffs that may never be matched, including consecutive shutouts while holding both opponents to less than 100 yards total offense on their way to a Super Bowl Title and a 15-1 W-L record.  They allowed ony 7 yards rushing in the Super Bowl (123 total) and the following season they were even better statistically, but fell in the playoffs.
1974 - 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers - The Steel Curtain (9.9 ppg in '76) Super Bowl Titles (75,76,79,80).  The Steelers defense was so good they held the Vikings to only 119 yards of offense (17 rushing). The Vikings only points came on a blocked punt returned for a TD.  The Steelers even blocked that extra point.
1968, 1969, & 1975 L.A. Rams (9.6 ppg in '75) - Fearsome Foursome. Although never Super Bowl Champs (thanks in large part to the Purple People Eaters) the Rams defense set the modern tone of tough-nosed defenses with a pass rush that earned them the nickname "Fearsome Foursome" and featured perhaps the greatest pass-rusher ever, Deacon Jones.
1972 & 1973 Miami Dolphins - The No Name Defense (10.7 ppg) Undefeated "Perfect" season (17-0) culminating in 1973 Super Bowl Championship. Denied a Super Bowl shutout only by a blocked Field Goal returned for a score.
1944 New York Giants - It's hard to deny 6.8 ppg as a superior defense, and outshined even the 1951 season.
1969 Minnesota Vikings - Purple People Eaters (9.5 ppg) went to 3 Super Bowls in 4 years but never got close.
1977 Atlanta Falcons - (9.2 ppg) earned the Falcons this spot despite being the only non playoff team listed here (7-7).
1977 Denver Broncos - The Orange Crush (10.6 ppg) -
1968 Kansas City Chiefs
